Many people stay away from chrome lighting in their home because they feel it’s too flashy for them. However, it’s fairly easy to incorporate chrome style and have it look fantastic, without being gaudy or over-the-top. Chrome lights are very versatile, and easy to incorporate with many interior designs. In this post I want to show you how to use chrome lighting in your home so that you can take advantage of this versatile style.
The first step in any lighting project is to assess your needs. Figuring out what needs to be lit is obviously very important, but many people aren’t specific enough in defining their needs. Do you need a room full of light? How about a dark corner? Maybe the hallway? Figuring out exactly what you need will determine what style of light it is that you need to install. For the rest of this post I want to show you how chrome lights work in different situations.
Lighting The Entire Room With Chrome
Chrome ceiling lights are the most popular style of light to use. Whether it be flush, semi-flush, or a hanging chandelier chrome is a great choice. The colors of your room are reflected in the chrome, so rather than being flashy, it works to blend in to the room and compliment the rest of the colors. This is important if the light is going to be the central point of the room. Bold colors tend to work best with a central chrome light, but pastel and neutral colors will also blend very well.
All of the standard styles of light fixture are represented in a chrome finish, so you can get whatever style you feel matches your home’s theme the best. Not all chrome light fixtures are flashy, modern, and over the top. You can probably find whatever is hanging in the center of your room right now in a chrome finish!
Area Specific Chrome Lighting
Area specific light fixtures are generally pendant, track, and recessed. All of these styles are represented in a chrome finish as well. In fact, most track lighting has a chrome or brushed chrome finish on it.
The key to getting this to look as good as possible is to have a few other chrome accents in the room. Having a single light fixture be the only chrome thing in your home will look fairly odd, but if you have a lamp with a chrome base, or chrome accents on your TV’s surround, you can make this look very good.
Chrome In The Hallway
One of the most forgotten areas for lighting in the home is the hallway. Anything you do is going to be an improvement, but with chrome and some simple accents you can create a very beautiful look.
My favorite look in the hallway is white walls, black picture frames, and chrome track lighting. The track light bulbs point at the pictures to illuminate them, and when you have multiple pictures on the wall you will have enough to light up the entire space. This is a very clean, crisp, and sophisticated look.
I hope that with the examples that I’ve covered in this post you’ll change your mind about chrome lighting being too much for use in your home. It’s extremely versatile, and works great in just about any home!
